Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress has announced that the next five years will mark a period of transformation aimed at addressing the country’s political and social challenges. The party has prioritized corruption control, strengthening health insurance, and reducing administrative expenses in its upcoming agenda.
Addressing an election program in Siraha, Congress President Gagan Thapa said the party, while rooted in its historic legacy, is moving forward with new thinking and determination. Drawing inspiration from major democratic movements of 2007, 2015, 2036 and 2046, he said the Congress is ready to correct its weaknesses and embrace the aspirations of the younger generation.
Thapa described corruption as a “plague” that must be eliminated starting from the top leadership. He stressed that individuals in public office must maintain the highest level of integrity and warned against misuse of power for personal or family interests.
Sharing his experience as former Health Minister, Thapa emphasized strengthening the health insurance system so that no citizen is forced to sell property for medical treatment. He said people should feel secure seeking treatment, regardless of the cost.
He also highlighted the need for job creation within Nepal to reduce youth migration and called for supportive policies to help small entrepreneurs sustain their businesses.
